Administrative research is generally divided into the following areas:
- NOTARIAL ACTS
- RECORDED ACTS
- LAND REGISTRY
- CADASTRE
- SUCCESSIONS
All requests should be forwarded to the following email address: as-no.salastudio@cultura.gov.it
1. NOTARIAL ACTS
The State Archive of Novara conserves the minute books produced by notaries and stored in the Notarial Acts Archive for a period of 100 years after the cessation of the business activities (art. 41 of Italian Legislative Decree 42/2004). The list of minute books for the period 1442-1883, which can be downloaded online, is available on the web page of this site: Notarial Acts Archive.
To find an act, it will therefore be necessary to know the name of the notary, the location of their business and the date of the act, in advance.
2. RECORDED ACTS
The same acts can also be traced via the Uffici di Insinuazione e del Registro (public offices where integral copies of notarial acts were registered), which were active in the Novara area from 1770 (Uffici di Insinuazione), later becoming the Public Records Office in 1862. In this case, to locate an act, you only need to know the date of the document and the Tappa (the place) in which the act was recorded. A list of the series of recorded acts is provided below:
- Ufficio di insinuazione, later the Public Records Office of Novara, Public and private acts, 1771-1957.
- Ufficio di insinuazione, later the Public Records Office of Borgomanero, Public and private acts, 1771-1957.
- Ufficio di insinuazione, later the Public Records Office of Gozzano, Public and private acts, 1772-1889.
- Ufficio di insinuazione, later the Public Records Office of Oleggio, Public and private acts, 1771-1950.
- Ufficio di insinuazione, later the Public Records Office of Orta San Giulio, Public and private acts, 1772-1924;
- Ufficio di insinuazione, later the Public Records Office of Romagnano Sesia, Public and private acts, 1771-1936.
3. LAND REGISTRY
Research into recorded acts, i.e. sales, leases, transactions, successions and agreements from the 19th century to 1957, can be conducted through the Land Registry. The archive consists of the following catalogues:
- Rubriche (Indexes);
- Repertori (Collections) of recorded acts;
- Note di trascrizione (Transcription Notes) (T), 1866-1957;
- Titoli di trascrizione (Titles of Transcription) (TT), 1823-1957.
It will be sufficient to know the name of one of the contracting parties (which can be found in the Indexes) to see all acts recorded under their name (in the Collections), communicating the details of the Transcription Note or Title of Transcription.
N.B.: To expedite the search, it is possible to communicate the name of just one of the contracting parties. The Office will then contact you to schedule an appointment during which it will be possible to view the Collection(s) and request the Note or Title of interest.
4. SUCCESSIONS
Documentation on successions is stored in various archives: the Public Records Offices of Novara, Borgomanero, Oleggio, Romagnano Sesia, the Revenue Agencies of Novara and Borgomanero.
The succession documents were partly acquired through deposits from the Revenue Agency. A list of the collections and the years to which they refer is provided below:
- Public Records Office of Novara, Successions, 1814-2006.
- Public Records Office of Borgomanero, Successions, 1833-1988.
- Public Records Office of Oleggio, Successions, 1833-1972.
- Public Records Office of Romagnano Sesia, Successions, 1821-1861.
To find a succession document, you need to know the relevant Public Records Office (Novara, Borgomanero, Oleggio, Romagnano Sesia), the Volume number and the Succession number in advance. In the absence of this information, it is possible to carry out research using the Transcription Notes from the Novara Land Registry by providing the name of the party in question.
