Pursuant to art. 103 of D.Lgs (Italian Legislative Decree) no. 42 of 22 May 2004 on the “Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code", access to archives for academic or reference purposes is free.
However, the consultation of the records is subject to the restrictions outlined in articles 122-127 of D.Lgs (Italian Legislative Decree) 42/2004. More precisely, it is not possible to access documentation from the last 70 years that reveals information on state of health, sexual relations or private family relationships, or documentation from the last 40 years containing information on criminal proceedings. Furthermore, some records are declared confitential / were classified by the Ministery of the Interior, pursuant to article 125 of the Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code, on State foreign or domestic policy affairs, which may be accessed 50 years after the date the matter has been concluded.
The rules of conduct for accessing the records for academic and research purposes have recently been brought together in the
of 19 December 2018, published pursuant to art. 20, paragraph 4 of D.Lgs (Italian Legislative Decree) no. 101 of 10 August 2018.With regard to the processing of personal data of users and suppliers, the provisions of European Regulation 2016/679 on the Protection of Personal Data - GDPR - and its transposition into national law through D.Lgs (Italian Legislative Decree) no. 101 of 10 August 2018, remain valid.
The State Archive of Novara therefore informs its users that it has updated its privacy policy, guaranteeing protection from any event that may constitute a personal data breach risk. The Archive stores the data and the email address provided when registering and filling out the forms to access the Institution, in compliance with the COVID-19 safety measures, exclusively for administrative and communication purposes, for the results of searches conducted via correspondence, and for study room reservations.
