Library rules and regulations

1. Principles

1.1 This set of rules and regulations are drawn up in accordance with the principles set out in the Italian Constitution, national laws, EU regulations and the Library Services Charter. The Library of the State Archives of Novara also follows the quality standards defined and shared by the Polo Unificato dell’Università del Piemonte Orientale, of which this library is part.

1.2 The Library of the State Archives of Novara is a place for study and reading, in support of historical and administrative research activities at the aforementioned State Archives. The library material conserved at the State Archives of Novara includes monographic works on the history, art and culture of the city of Novara and the provincial territory, local and national periodicals, and specialised works in the archival sector.

1.3 The Library of the State Archives of Novara is a member of the Sistema Bibliotecario del Basso Novarese (SBBN), whose headquarters is the Biblioteca Civica Carlo Negroni in Novara, and contributes to its operation and development. The common catalogue can be consulted at https://upo.sebina.it/opac/.do?sysb=BassoNovarese.

2. Services

2.1 The Library of the State Archives of Novara offers the following services to the public, within the limits of the current regulations: reception and reference, bibliographical information and advice, reading and consultation on-site. In addition, the library also supports the modernisation and the promotion of the cultural heritage and events promoted by the SBBN.

2.2 All of the Library's services are designed to integrate the services provided by the Novara State Archives. The bibliographic heritage is therefore mainly oriented towards monographic and periodical works related to local history and the documentary heritage in the archive.

2.3 Reception, reference and consultation services can be provided by electronic means, via the e-mail address as-no.salastudio@cultura.gov.it, or, after having reserved a study desk as indicated, directly in person.

3. Accessibility

3.1 The Library has the same opening hours as the study room of the Novara State Archives: it is accessible from Monday to Friday in two shifts, in the morning from 8.30 to 12.30, in the afternoon from 12.30 to 15.30. Access to the study room and the bibliographic heritage is free, with respect for users, staff and the heritage itself.

3.2 Entry is by reservation only, to be requested by 12.00 noon on the day before the chosen date, by sending an e-mail to as-no.salastudio@cultura.gov.it specifying the time of entry, the type of research to be carried out and the bibliographic material requested (for a maximum of 3 bibliographic units).

3.3 First-time applicants must communicate their intention to the e-mail address as-no.salastudio@cultura.gov.it. They should then fill out the form downloadable at https://www.archiviodistatonovara.cultura.gov.it/servizi-al-pubblico/sala-di-studio and send it, together with a copy of an identity document, to the same e-mail address. In exceptional cases, it is possible to hand it in on paper directly at the first access to the study room.

3.3. Coloro che accedono per la prima volta devono comunicare l’intenzione all’indirizzo e-mail as-no.salastudio@cultura.gov.it.
