In 1971 the Notary Archives of Novara moved to the new location, abandoning the former Church of the Maddalena, owned by the municipality. The papers prior to 1871 were transferred to the newly established State Archive of Novara, which therefore did not undergo a physical transfer. Other deliveries were done in 1984, 2002 and subsequent years. The vast superfond, with a consistency of more than 16,000 envelopes, includes acts issued in the Novara area and in the Lake Orta area. In 1994 the Valsesia acts were transferred to the Varallo Sesia section of the State Archive of Vercelli. In 1984, some acts of unknown notaries from the beginning of the 15th century, stitched together, were found and joined to the collection. Usually the envelopes contain bundles of papers tied in a cross with a string (a typical technique of the period between the 15th and 18th centuries), but there are also many registers whose cover is made up of recovered scrolls.
